Shi Xiangying

Shan Shui protects high-biodiversity habitats in China. They find places where there is strong overlap of biodiversity, wildlife, and rural communities. Then they co-design and develop natural resource plans with herder and farmer communities to improve livelihoods through wildlife-friendly jobs like ecotourism. 

Xiangying brings a blend of expertise and cultural fluency to community conservation, having trained as an economist at Peking University before earning her masters in environmental studies from Yale. Through her leadership at Shan Shui and her ongoing PhD program in ecological economics, Xiangying studies and advances the subjects of natural capital and the economics of climate change.
