Local communities in Africa live on and traditionally manage about 70% of the continent’s land, yet their rights are recognized on less than 10% of that area. Civil society organizations that support community-led conservation are key to changing this, but they tend to thrive in the field and struggle in the back-office.
Fred has spent the last 20 years working on natural resource management and development in East Africa. 11 of those years were spent living and working in Tanzania. He earned his Bachelors from Cornell University and his Masters in Natural Resources at the University of Michigan.
