The health needs of school age children are still largely unmet across Africa. Children with common childhood illnesses—malaria, water borne disease, infections—get care late, or not at all.

Keep school-aged kids healthy.
Healthy Learners turns teachers into front-line health workers and integrates schools into the national healthcare system to ensure that low-income kids get the care they need, when they need it.
Governments across Africa integrate school-based healthcare into national systems, keeping millions of kids healthy and in school.
This is a proven, government-ready model for school-based primary healthcare. Healthy Learners is scaling fast across Zambia with a simple, effective solution that costs just $1.51 per student per year to maintain. They’ve built strong momentum—now in 10 of 10 provinces and reaching more than 1 million kids. Their strategy combines grassroots delivery with top-down policy influence, and they’ve got real traction with key ministries and even a new parliamentary caucus backing school health. A new RCT will test the model at scale, and early signs suggest it’s cheap and good enough for governments to run without them. This is a smart bet on a massive need—and the team is now looking beyond Zambia.
