Malnutrition is common in school-age children across Africa. At the same time, there's a ton of evidence that midday school meals have a huge effect on learning—bigger than a lot of other education interventions like teacher bonuses, more books, and tablet learning .
Wawira is a trained nutritionist and social entrepreneur from Kenya. She earned a degree in Nutrition Science from the University of South Australia and immediately launched Food 4 Education. She has been recognized for her school-feeding work by Spark International, the University of Cape town, the GSBI/Miller Center, the Stanford Design school, and the DRK Foundation.
