Restore biodiversity on farmland.
Farmers for Forests (F4F) helps farmers transition to agroforestry by using carbon finance to front the costs. They source a variety of native trees that will also produce income, get them to farmers, and subsidize the farmers upfront during the early years before trees are productive. Drones, their special sauce, monitor tree growth to verify carbon sequestration for future payments.
Biodiverse agroforestry is the norm for India’s smallholder farmers, enabled by an industry financed by carbon credits.
This is a big opportunity to tackle multiple problems with one elegant solution. F4F is still early but has real momentum—they’re got early evidence of persuasive impact and are close to securing a larger carbon buyer for the conversion of 20,000 hectares to agroforestry. They have a talented team with a strong culture of experimentation and iteration, and their drone-based monitoring and analysis is cutting edge. They have a real shot at making biodiversity restoration profitable at a scale that matters.
