The Mission

Boost kids to grade-level in reading and math.

How It Works

Imagine stands out among Edtech organizations with a model that delivers literacy and numeracy in a range of low-resource settings. They use an effective package of durable hardware and cutting-edge software to deliver basic reading and math to students in Grades 1–5, primarily in Malawi, Tanzania, and Sierra Leone.

The Dream

Governments deliver personalized, tablet-based learning across Africa.

Why We're In

Research shows this works. Imagine’s kids achieved 29% and 72% grade-level status in literacy and numeracy, respectively (50% better results than a control) after two years. Their adaptive, personalized software is expected to double results after four years. The need is great, and it’s not constrained by teacher supply or pedagogy—a good fit in settings where classes are often over 50 kids. They’ve got a strong, primarily Africa-based team that’s expanded their model to hundreds of thousands of kids via government implementation in Malawi. Imagine is now well on its way to replicating in Sierra Leone and Tanzania, thanks to funding from the World Bank at a just a few dollars per kid—a price most governments can afford.
