Safe water for everyone, forever.
Uduma supports governments to restructure water contract boundaries, combining profitable peri-urban areas with remote, unprofitable ones. This forces private operators to serve everyone, while tapping into government mandates to provide universal water access. Companies bid on these contracts, and agree to provide improved drinking water to people over the long run, in exchange for fair user payments. When governments agree to upgrade the infrastructure up front, it's a smart business.
Governments ensure private water operators can profitably deliver safe drinking water on demand to all customers, with user fees even the poorest can afford.
Uduma's model can profitably serve the most remote locations with affordable water -- a big idea for the continent and beyond. Most attempts to provide safe water to Africans are NGO projects with good intentions (but no financial sustainability), or urban utilities serving businesses and rich neighborhoods. Uduma tries to take the best from both approaches, and build on their momentum of already running 700+ water systems.
