How It Works

Intelehealth’s telemedicine platform connects rural patients to urban doctors via virtual tele-consults. When a patient comes into a clinic, health workers use Intelehealth's smart digital assistant—a tablet with diagnosis/treatment-guiding software—to help them screen the patient and share this information virtually with the doctor prior to the tele-consult. Then, the local clinic worker facilitates a virtual consult between the patient and the doctor.

Governments adopt and pay for Intelehealth's telemedicine platform at national scale.

Why We're In

Telemedicine increases remote access to high-quality care where patients wouldn’t have received it otherwise. The potential is huge: this could work for over a billion people where health ministries are well-suited to deliver it. There is high cost-variability based on the use case (primary care is a lot cheaper than specialty care), but Intelehealth is working through unit costs to make it affordable for governments to pay. Intelehealth has two approaches to scaling their solution. In some countries, like India, the government has its own software that Intelehealth improves by building in high impact features from their software. Outside of India, like their work in Kyrgyzstan, the goal is for governments to pay for and deploy Intelehealth’s software nationwide to improve health for hard-to-reach populations. They have great traction with both pathways to scale and COVID supercharged the demand for telemedicine. Intelehealth’s reach has exploded from 77K consultations to 1.3M!
