Depression is the number one cause of disability among African women; worse, depression in mothers has a profound negative effect on the well-being of kids.

Improve mental health in Africa.
StrongMinds treats depression with group talk therapy, delivered by trained lay facilitators in Uganda, Zambia, and Kenya. The solution requires neither health professionals nor medications and is delivered in short weekly sessions.
Every African has access to StrongMinds’ group talk therapy for free, subsidized and managed by national health services.
StrongMinds is proving that lay facilitators can make mental health treatment accessible to all. After years of experimentation, they’ve found a model that can scale while maintaining impact—~75% of clients get and stay out of depression for up to a year. Over time, they’ve reduced the cost by 87%, but they believe it can still get cheaper.
