How It Works
Professional CHW are salaried and certified, well-trained and skilled, effectively supervised, and consistently supplied. CHIC is an advocacy organization that serves as a platfrom to scale the proCHW model worldwide. Formed and governed by proCHW practitioners, they promote this agenda by 1) coordinating research, 2) advocating for funding, 3) shaping national and international policies, and serving as a platform to share best practices.

Why We're In
Professional CHWs are are central to the dream of healthcare for all, and Mulago funded a bunch of innovative organizations in this space. These organizations formed CHIC as a vehicle for collective impact, and the results have been impressive—this has become a bona fide movement that has put proCHWs in a global spotlight. CHIC has driven and gathered a huge trove of research and impact evidence. They raised $150m CHW fund, and gotten 43 of their 93 priority countries to embed the right CHW policies in their plans. CEO Madelaine Ballard is a force of nature, and while budget crises in Africa threaten momentum, we expect that CHIC will rise to the occasion.
